Introduce foods thoughtfully

NHS guidance recommends introducing potentially allergenic foods individually when starting solids, usually around six months. Ask your GP or health visitor first if your baby has eczema, an allergy or relevant family history.

Record concerns

Note the food, time and symptoms for your clinician. Do not remove major food groups or use specialist formula without advice, as this can affect nutrition. An allergy assessment is different from a commercial intolerance test.

A severe reaction is an emergency

Breathing problems or swelling of the tongue or throat can indicate a severe reaction. Call 999 for an emergency. Seek prompt advice for other suspected reactions; do not retry the food to test your baby at home.
