Think variety over perfection
Try combining vegetables or fruit, a starchy food and a protein source through the day. Tinned beans, frozen vegetables and ordinary family meals can be practical options. Check NHS food-safety guidance for pregnancy-specific exclusions.
Plan for difficult days
Food aversions and nausea can make cooking hard. Keep easy meals available and ask for help with shopping. Contact your maternity team if symptoms persist or drinking becomes difficult.
- Choose a few meals you can tolerate.
- Keep drinking water accessible.
- Ask about recommended supplements.
Keep advice personal
Diabetes, allergies and restricted diets may require tailored nutrition advice from a registered dietitian or maternity team. Do not start restrictive diets or high-dose supplements based on social-media advice.
