Start with your existing care

If you take prescribed medicines or have a long-term condition, arrange a conversation with your GP before trying for a baby. Do not stop prescribed treatment yourself. Discuss your health history, vaccinations and support needs.

Make a manageable plan

Ask your GP or pharmacist about folic acid and whether you need a prescribed dose. Discuss stopping smoking, avoiding alcohol and a varied diet. Partners can take on household tasks and appointment planning.

  • Write down current medicines and supplements.
  • Ask which vaccinations need checking before pregnancy.
  • Agree how you will share practical jobs.

Give yourself room

Trying to conceive can take time and affect emotional wellbeing. Your GP can advise when to seek fertility support based on your age, circumstances and history. You do not need to handle worry alone.
